Three ways to pay for your driveway twice.

We hear them every season, in Montreal as in Terrebonne. None of them is inevitable.

Here is how we avoid all three

Our services

Asphalt paving: everything to do with driveways and parking lots.

New paving, repair, resurfacing, sealcoating, excavation and foundation. Residential and commercial, one single crew from start to finish, written and itemized quote.

Straight talk

What the others don’t tell you.

Four job-site truths a good contractor explains to you before you sign, not after.

  1. “The lowest price almost always comes with a thinner foundation.”

The asphalt you see is the least expensive part of the job. What costs money is the excavation, the crushed stone and the hours of compaction. When one quote comes in far below the others, ask what was taken out: it is rarely the colour.

  2. “There is a right temperature and a wrong temperature for paving.”

Hot asphalt must be compacted before it cools. Too late in the season, too cold in the morning, too far from the plant: it hardens before it is compacted and the surface stays porous. We plan to pave in the right conditions.

  3. “A plate compactor is no substitute for a roller.”

A driveway compacted by hand or with small equipment keeps air voids. Water settles in them, freezes, and the driveway breaks down from the inside. We lay with a paving machine and compact with a roller: that is not an equipment detail, it is what makes the difference by the third spring.

  4. “A verbal warranty is worth nothing in April.”

“Don’t worry, we guarantee it.” Guarantee what? For how long? Against what? If it is not written in your quote, it does not exist. Ours is, in black and white, before you sign.

In black and white

What we commit to in writing.

No salesperson’s promises. Five commitments you will find in your quote.

Every commitment is written into your quote, line by line. That is what lets you compare us with anyone else, and hold us accountable.

Asphalte Pro Québec

Commitments included in every quote

  1. 1. A quote that details every step

Excavation, foundation, asphalt thickness, drainage, finishing: every item is written down. You can compare line by line with anyone else.

  2. 2. A firm price

The price on the quote is the price on the invoice. If an unforeseen condition requires a change, we explain it and you approve it BEFORE, never after.

  3. 3. A written warranty

Our work is guaranteed against workmanship and material defects. The terms are written in your quote, not said over the phone.

  4. 4. The owner on site

You talk to the person doing the work, before, during and after. No salesperson, no unknown subcontractor showing up in the morning.

  5. 5. An honest diagnosis

If a repair or a resurfacing is enough, we tell you, even if it earns us less than a rebuild. We would rather have a client who comes back than a forced sale.

Why us

Built to last. Built for Quebec.

Paving is judged after five winters, not on the day it is laid. That is why we invest in what you will never see: the base, the drainage and the compaction.

  • Quality

You get a uniform surface, with no waves or visible seams, because the hot asphalt is laid with a paver and compacted with a roller, not by hand.

  • Reliability

You know who is coming, when, and for how much. Written quote, agreed date, owner on site.

  • Durability

Your driveway gets through the winters because the work was done where you cannot see it: base compacted in layers, drainage slopes, thickness matched to the traffic.

  • Local service

You deal with a local crew that knows the narrow driveways of Montreal and your city’s bylaws.

What’s under your driveway.

A nice surface is easy in June. What holds up in April is what lies underneath. Here is how we build a driveway, layer by layer.

  1. Excavated and graded soil

Excavation to the required depth, drainage slopes.

  2. MG-20 / 0-¾ crushed stone compacted in layers

Generally 6 to 8 in. for a residential driveway, 10 to 12 in. and more for commercial.

  3. Hot asphalt laid with a paver

Uniform thickness, compacted with a roller.

  4. Protective sealer

Recommended 6 to 12 months after paving, then every 3 to 5 years.

How it works

Five steps. Zero surprises.

  1. 01

    Site visit and quote

You get a written price, not an estimate: we measure on site, assess the base and the drainage, and every step is itemized in the quote.

  2. 02

    Preparation

We remove what no longer holds and build what you will never see: excavation, crushed stone compacted in layers, drainage slopes.

  3. 03

    Paving

Hot asphalt is laid with a paver for a uniform thickness, then compacted with a roller. The result: a smooth surface with no waves or visible seams.

  4. 04

    Finishing

Clean edges, tidy transitions to the garage, the sidewalk and the street. The site is cleaned up: you pick up nothing.

  5. 05

    Follow-up

You leave with maintenance instructions, your written warranty and clear advice on the ideal time for sealcoating.

Repair, resurface or rebuild?

It is not a matter of preference, it is a matter of how the base is holding up. Here is how we decide during the site visit.

Criteria Repair Resurface Rebuild
Condition of the base Sound, localized damageSound, surface worn everywhereSunken, too thin or unstable
Typical symptoms A few cracks, a pothole, a broken edgeGrey surface, widespread surface cracks, no sinkingNetworked cracks, waves, puddles, multiple sunken spots
What it fixes Stops the deterioration where it isGives a new surface over what still holdsFixes the cause: foundation, drainage, thickness
What it does not fix A base that moves elsewhereSinking and a weak baseNothing: it is the complete solution
Length of the work One visit, most of the timeOne day, most of the timeOne day of preparation, then paving in the following days
Relative budget $$$$$$

"$ / $$ / $$$" = the relative cost of one option compared to the others, not an amount. The firm price is written in your quote, after the site visit.

Let’s talk price

What drives the price.

A price per square foot without seeing your base is a guess, and a guess turns into extras on the day of the work. Here is what really moves a quote.

  1. The surface area

Asphalt is calculated by the square foot, measured on site. A single driveway and a double driveway with a turning area do not call for the same quantity of materials or the same machine time.

  2. The condition of the foundation

It is the most important factor, and the most often ignored. If the base is sound, a resurfacing is enough. If it is sunken or too thin, it has to be excavated and rebuilt: more work, but a result that holds.

  3. The compacted thickness

The stone thickness and the asphalt thickness after compaction are chosen according to the soil and the traffic. “Laid” is not “compacted”: insist on the figure after the roller.

  4. Access to the site

A sloped driveway, a narrow lot between two buildings, a back lane or a long haul for the trucks and the paving machine all change the working time.

  5. The extras

Curbs, tie-ins with paving stones, drainage, removal of concrete or roots, line marking for a business. Each one is written separately in the quote.

  6. The time of year

We pave from May to November, depending on ground temperature, and the calendar fills in the order quotes are accepted. Planning early (or off season) gives you the choice of date, without changing the quality of the work.

The calendar

In Quebec, we pave from May to November.

A few weeks remain before the frost. It is the last window to seal, repair or pave before winter goes to work on open cracks. Hot asphalt must be compacted before it cools: past a certain cold, we postpone to spring rather than do work that will not hold.

  • A repair done this fall costs less than a rebuild in the spring.
  • Closing a crack before the frost keeps water from getting in and widening it all winter.
  • If your project is too big for the window that remains, we tell you, and we schedule it for spring.

Objections

Hesitating? That’s normal.

The seven hesitations we hear most often, and our straight answers to each one.

I got a cheaper quote somewhere else.

That’s possible, and sometimes justified. Before you sign, compare what is written: stone thickness, asphalt thickness, compaction method, warranty. If the other quote doesn’t specify these points, you aren’t comparing two prices: you’re comparing a price and an unknown. We’ll gladly help you read both.

I’ll wait until next year.

If your base is sound and the surface is only faded, waiting is reasonable, and we’ll tell you so. If you have open cracks or sunken areas, every extra winter makes them bigger, and a repair becomes a reconstruction. The visit is free: at the very least, you’ll decide with the facts in hand.

I don’t know your company.

Fair enough, and that’s why we put everything in writing. You meet the owner during the visit, you receive a detailed quote, and nothing happens without your approval. You don’t take our word for it: you judge us on what we write and on what we do.

I don’t know whether to repair, resurface or redo everything.

You don’t have to know. That’s exactly what we assess during the visit: the condition of the base, the drainage, the extent of the damage. We explain the options, their expected lifespan and their relative cost, then you choose. Select “I don’t know yet” in the form.

I can’t close my parking lot or disturb my tenants.

We plan the work in phases to keep your access open, we work at the hours that disrupt your operations the least, and you have a single point of contact from start to finish. You receive a written schedule before the first day.

What if it cracks anyway?

Our work is guaranteed in writing against installation and material defects; the terms are in your quote. And because the owner is on every job site, you know exactly who to call, and he answers.

Can I call you directly?

Yes, at 438 220-0849. We are often on job sites: if we do not answer, leave a message or fill in the form, and we call you back with the right questions.

FAQ

Your questions, our answers.

The questions we get asked most often, with answers that hide nothing.

How much does an asphalt driveway cost in Quebec?

The price depends on the surface area, the condition of the base and access to the site. A full reconstruction costs more than resurfacing, which costs more than sealcoating. We give you a written, detailed quote, free and with no obligation, after an on-site visit. The six factors that make the price vary are explained on our Asphalt Paving Prices page.

When is the best time to pave in Quebec?

From May to November, as long as the ground temperature lets hot asphalt compact properly. The schedule fills up in the order quotes are accepted: asking for yours early gives you the choice of date.

How long does it take to pave a driveway?

Most residential driveways are paved in a single day. If a new foundation is needed, count on one day of preparation, then paving in the following days.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes. Our paving work is guaranteed against installation and material defects. The terms of the warranty are written in black and white in your quote, not said over the phone.

Asphalt or paving stones: which should you choose?

Asphalt costs considerably less to install, goes down in a day and is easy to repair. Paving stones offer more design options but cost considerably more to install and need their joints maintained. For a durable, affordable driveway in Quebec, asphalt remains the most popular choice.

Which cities do you serve?

Montreal, Laval, Terrebonne, Mascouche, Repentigny, Blainville, Boisbriand, Sainte-Thérèse, Rosemère, Lorraine, Bois-des-Filion, Saint-Eustache, Mirabel, L’Assomption, as well as Longueuil and Brossard on the South Shore.

Do I need a permit to redo my driveway?

It depends on the city and the project. Many cities require a permit or a certificate of authorization to build, modify or enlarge a parking area, and several also regulate curb and sidewalk cuts. In Mirabel, for example, a residential parking area does not need one but cutting the curb does; in Lorraine, paving a driveway falls under a certificate of authorization. Confirm your case with your City before you sign: each city page summarizes what its City says and links to its official page.

When should you apply sealer to a new driveway?

About 6 to 12 months after paving, once the new asphalt has finished curing, then every 3 to 5 years depending on use. Sealing too early traps the oils instead of protecting the surface.

How thick are the asphalt and stone layers you install?

Generally 6 to 8 inches of compacted crushed stone and 2 to 3 inches of compacted asphalt for a residential driveway; more for a commercial parking lot or an area with truck traffic. The thicknesses planned for your project are written in the quote: after compaction, not “as laid”.
