Asphalt paving in
Terrebonne.
In Terrebonne, cutting a curb to widen a driveway before asphalt paving takes a City permit, and requests are filed from April 1 to November 1. We schedule your asphalt paving in Terrebonne after that cut, as the City asks, so the new driveway is not damaged.
Asphalt paving in Terrebonne: the curb first, then the driveway.
Before choosing an asphalt thickness, a Terrebonne driveway is measured against the City rule: its maximum width is the smaller of 7 metres or 50% of the lot width, subject to Zoning Bylaw 1001. That bylaw does not apply in Urbanova, which follows the Manuel d’urbanisme durable (sustainable planning manual). During the visit, we measure your frontage, compare the width you want with what is allowed, and tell you whether a curb cut request has to come before the paving.
Local particulars
The curb cut request is assessed by the Public Works department within 15 business days: a technician comes to check the measurements and marks the location. The cut is made by a contractor mandated by the City, no later than six weeks after a complete request is received, along with the certificate of location or the certificate of implantation.

Three situations set by the City change the quote. To shorten or move a driveway, the curb is demolished and rebuilt in concrete: the City gives written notice a few days ahead, and the parking space stays unusable for about seven days. If paving stones run along the curb, the owner must remove them over 0.3 metres opposite the work. Finally, the strip between the curb and your lot, the municipal right-of-way, belongs to the City even though you maintain it: it must stay free of any object. We set the paving date after the curb work, tell you before the cut what has to be cleared, and join the asphalt to the new concrete with a straight, level cut.

After winter in Terrebonne: repair and seal at the right time
In winter, the City spreads salt and crushed stone on its streets, and it may blow snow onto neighbouring lots when a street gets too narrow. In spring, it asks owners to sweep salt and stone from their lot toward the roadway before the street sweeper comes by, which usually starts around the last week of March. Once the driveway is clear, cracks are easier to see: an asphalt repair with a clean cut, a recompacted base and hot asphalt closes them before the next freeze. On a surface that is still sound, sealcoating goes on when the season allows: the sealcoating guide explains when.

Permits and bylaws in Terrebonne
In Terrebonne, a permit is required to cut or rebuild a curb or sidewalk, for example to widen, shorten or move a driveway. The request is made online, from April 1 to November 1 for a curb cut and from May 1 to November 1 for a rebuild, with the certificate of location. A sidewalk cannot be cut: it has to be rebuilt. The page is silent on repaving that keeps the same width, so check with the City before you sign. Source: Bordures et trottoirs, accessed October 25, 2026.

Commercial parking lots in Terrebonne
For a parking lot with more than 25 spaces, laying out or modifying the area requires a certificate of authorization from the City, while normal maintenance does not. These parking lots are also among the projects covered by Bylaw 1011 on PIIA (site planning and architectural integration programs) in certain sectors. We work out with you whether your project is maintenance or a modification, then split the work into phases, with a written schedule, to keep an access open.

Frequently asked questions in Terrebonne.
How long does it take to get the curb cut?
The Public Works department assesses the request within 15 business days, then a technician marks the location on site. Once it is approved, you pay online, and the cut is made within 15 business days of payment, weather permitting. You do not need to be there. We set the paving date once the curb has been cut.
I live in Vieux-Terrebonne: do I need an authorization to redo my driveway?
Possibly. Vieux-Terrebonne is a heritage site designated on May 20, 2026, and its protection measures have applied since July 7, 2025. Before changing the layout of a lot or excavating the soil, the owner must get authorization from the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications. For simple repaving, check with the Ministère and the City: we wait for their answer before setting a date.
What do I need to prepare before the curb is cut?
The driveway entrance must be clear of debris, materials, stone and vehicles, otherwise the work is postponed and extra fees may apply. If there is grass, stone or pavement behind the curb, you have nothing to do. Paving stones, however, must be removed over 0.3 metres, or one foot, opposite the work.
My driveway is cracking: does it have to be fully redone?
Not necessarily. We first check whether the base has moved. If it holds, the crack is closed by hot crack sealing or by replacing the affected section: cut, new base, new asphalt. If the driveway is wavy or sagging, one more layer would not hold, and the written quote proposes a rebuild on a stone foundation compacted in layers.
